FORNEY, Texas — A Forney woman, a Forney Independent School District teacher, is recovering from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle rollover accident on Farm-to-Market (FM) 548 early Saturday morning — the cause of which is still under investigation.

The woman, identified as Jennifer Johnson, is a 5th grade teacher at Rhea Elementary and won Elementary Teacher of the YEar for the 2011-12 school year.

Johnson's vehicle was traveling southbound on FM 548 just before 1 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2014, when, for unknown reasons at this time, veered off the right shoulder and overturned in a field near the Jack’s Quick Stop and Taco Casa.

When emergency personal arrived on scene, Johnson was unresponsive outside the vehicle, several feet away from the vehicle which came to a rest on the passenger side. A CareFlite medical helicopter was initially placed on ground standby. The Forney Police Department, Forney Fire Department, and an East Texas Medical Center (ETMC) ambulance responded to the accident.

The CareFlite helicopter was later disregarded and the female was taken to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, via the ETMC ambulance. Johnson remains hospitalized as of Monday afternoon for serious injuries sustained during the accident but family and friends say she is recovering and has been responsive.

Police remained on scene for nearly four hours investigating the accident. A wrecker arrived just before 4:30 a.m. to remove the vehicle.
