KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A 16-year-old male's foot was accidentally shot with a shotgun while bird hunting in southeastern Kaufman County on Monday, December 22, 2014.
The incident occurred just before 4:45 p.m. on Monday in a field near Johnson Ranch Road and County Road 4016 in unincorporated Kaufman County — which is east of Kemp, Texas, and north of Farm-to-Market 1391.
A preliminary report from the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office indicated the teen, then described as 15 years old, may have accidentally shot himself in the foot. Tuesday morning, Kaufman County Sheriff's Office representative Captain Fred Klingelberger told inForney.com a 15-year-old male accidentally discharged the shotgun and struck the 16-year-old male in the foot. The pair were hunting together.
Although the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched, the incident is considered a medical call and limited information was available. No criminal charges are pending. The teen was transported by an East Texas Medical Center ambulance to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
