KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The Forney Fire Department extinguished a car fire on Interstate 20 on Saturday night, May 23, 2015.
At approximately 9 p.m., the fire was reported on Interstate 20 near mile marker 496 — which is in between Farm-to-Market (FM) 1641 and FM 148. A passing tow truck driver stopped and attempted to render aid with a fire extinguisher but, he told inForney.com, the engine was already fully engulfed in flames.
The Forney Fire Department arrived and quickly extinguished the fire which had now spread to the cabin of the vehicle — a 2006 Cadillac sedan. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
The vehicle had reportedly run out of gas just prior to the fire and was stopped on the right shoulder of the highway. While attempting to refuel the vehicle, the driver reported a strong odor of fuel.
Eastbound Interstate 20 was briefly closed while firefighters were fighting the fire. A CareFlite ambulance and the Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office also responded to the scene.
