FORNEY, Texas — Forney Mayor Rick Wilson declared September 4, 2015, as Back The Blue Day in Forney, presenting the Forney Police Department with a proclamation on Friday morning.

FORNEY, Texas — Forney Mayor Rick Wilson declared September 4, 2015, as Back The Blue Day in Forney, presenting the Forney Police Department with a proclamation on Friday morning.

Police officers with the Forney Police Department, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Kaufman County Precinct 2’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Forney Fire Department gathered at the Forney Police Department on Friday morning for a lighting ceremony in honor of Harris County Deputy Sheriff Darren Goforth who was killed in the line of duty.

The proclamation reads:

Whereas, Deputy Sheriff Darren H. Goforth was shot and killed Aug. 28; and

Whereas, Governor Greg Abbott Wednesday asked all Texas law enforcement officers to turn on their red and blue flashing lights for one-minute at 11 a.m. Friday, the time of funeral Deputy Sheriff Darren H. Goforth; and

Whereas, Abbott has also ordered Texas flags across the state to be lowered to half-staff today;

Now, Therefore, I, Rick Wilson, Mayor, in honor of Deputy Sheriff Darren H. Goforth and all our law enforcement officers, do hereby proclaim today as Back The Blue Day in the City of Forney, Texas. I ask all residents to thank our local law enforcement officers for their hard work and selfless dedication to our protection.
