MESQUITE, Texas — Two Mesquite Police Department officers and a Good Samaritan are being hailed as heroes after they pulled an unconscious man from his burning vehicle on Sunday morning.
On Sunday, April 19, 2015, at approximately 4:11 a.m., the Mesquite Police Department responded to the south service road of Interstate-30 near Edgebrook Drive for a reported single-vehicle crash in which the vehicle caught on fire, according to Mesquite Police Department spokesperson Lt. Brian Parrish.
When police arrived, the man, identified as 25-year-old Hector Valles or Mesquite, Texas, was unconscious and still inside the burning vehicle. Police Officer Ryan Neilsen rushed to the vehicle and, with the help of Officer Autumn Soto, forced the vehicles door open. The two officers and a Good Samaritan then pulled the man, whose clothes were on fire, from the burning vehicle.
Valles was transported to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, with burns and internal injuries, stated Parrish. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
