KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A propane tanker crash and fire forced the closure of Farm-to-Market (FM) 2932 on Monday afternoon.
The crash was reported at approximately 2:30 p.m. on FM 2932 approximately one mile south of Interstate 20. Police said the tanker was traveling westbound on FM 2932 when two of its wheels went off the right shoulder. The driver was able to get back onto the road but over-corrected resulting in the tanker overturning several times before coming to a rest on its side.
The driver of the vehicle was initially reported trapped inside the cab of the tanker. He was later taken by a CareFlite ambulance to Presbyterian Hospital in Rockwall, Texas, with non-life threatening injuries.
Firefighters with the Forney Fire Department responded and extinguished the initial fire and are now using an unmanned nozzle to cool the tanker while the remaining propane is purged.
A nearby home on FM 2932 was evacuated and other neighbors were asked to stay inside their homes. FM 2932 was closed in between Griffin Lane and Hancock Avenue until a valve on the tanker was sealed.
The Talty Police Department, Crandall Police Department, Forney Police Department, Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office, Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management, and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene.
