KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — An Ables Springs Volunteer firefighter will return from vacation to a tragic scene —his home having been destroyed in a fire Sunday morning.
Early Sunday morning, the Ables Springs Volunteer Fire Department responded to their fellow brother’s home in the 30000 block of Farm-to-Market (FM) 429 in northern Kaufman County to find it fully engulfed in flames.
The Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, Elmo Volunteer Fire Department and the Tawakoni South Volunteer Fire Department were immediately dispatched for mutual aid.
The house was unoccupied at the time because the firefighter, who has since been notified of the fire, was out-of-state on vacation, according to fire officials.
The home was completely destroyed in the fire. Firefighters were able to drag the firefighter’s vehicle from his garage before it too was destroyed in the fire.
Firefighters remained on scene until approximately 7:40 a.m.
The Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating to determine the exact cause of the fire.
