KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Westbound Interstate 20 near mile marker 512, which is near the Kaufman-Van Zandt County line, closed at approximately 6:45 p.m. due to an accident involving an 18-wheeler and a box truck.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Westbound Interstate 20 near mile marker 512, which is near the Kaufman-Van Zandt County line, closed at approximately 6:45 p.m. due to an accident involving an 18-wheeler and a box truck.
The box truck appeared to have struck the back of the 18-wheeler, pinning the driver. Firefighters reported an approximate 45-minute extrication to remove the driver of the box truck. A CareFlite helicopter landed on Interstate 20 in preparations to transport the driver who was ultimately transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Center.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported by a CareFlite ambulance to Methodist Dallas Medical Center.
The Elmo Volunteer Fire Department is also on scene with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, and an additional CareFlite ambulance.
This is a developing story. The highway remains closed as of 8:20 p.m. Fire department officials are reporting it could be 9 p.m. before the highway is re-opened.
