Westbound U.S. Highway 80 re-opened following two-vehicle accident

FORNEY, Texas -- A two-vehicle accident caused major delays remain on westbound U.S. Highway 80 at the Dallas-Kaufman County line on Wednesday night.

FORNEY, Texas -- A two-vehicle accident caused major delays remain on westbound U.S. Highway 80 at the Dallas-Kaufman County line on Wednesday night.

The accident occurred just after 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, and involved a pickup truck and passenger vehicle. A witness reported the passenger vehicle rear-ended the pickup truck at a high rate of speed, sending them both into the guardrail and shoulder.

The highway was temporarily completely closed. A single lane of the highway re-opened but major delays persisted until about 7 p.m.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported by an ambulance to Texas Regional Medical Center in Sunnyvale, Texas.

A wrecker removed the passenger vehicle and the truck was able to drive from the scene.

The Forney Fire Department, Dallas County Sheriff's Office, Sunnyvale Volunteer Fire Department, and the Texas Department of Public Safety also responded to the accident.
