KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect in Kaufman County from midnight tonight until noon Wednesday with one to three inches of potential snow forecasted.
“Areas of snow are expected to develop very late tonight as a strong upper level disturbance moves through the region, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Texas. “There is still considerable uncertainty where exactly the heavy snow will occur but right now we believe that it will extend from the east parts of the metroplex toward Greenville and Sulphur Springs.”
Due to the speed at which the storm system is traveling, the National Weather Service is predicting between one and three inches of snow with locally higher amounts.
“There is the potential for locally enhanced bands of snow that could produce very heavy snowfall and amounts nearly double what is currently forecast,” stated the National Weather Service. “Where these bands exactly set up is difficult to tell at this time.”
The snow is expected to be wet and slushy with minor impacts to travel. “Temperatures are expected to warm quickly after the system moves through with any snow melting during the afternoon hours on any roads,” stated the National Weather Service.
Drivers are urged to use caution on area roadways, especially bridges and overpasses.
