KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect in Kaufman County until 6 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015.
The National Weather Service in Fort Worth issued the advisory Friday just before 5 p.m. and called for light snow through mid-evening and light snow or freezing drizzle through late-evening and into Saturday.
Light snow accumulation is possible, according to the National Weather Service who also advised less than one-tenth of an inch of ice accumulation is possible through Saturday which could make for hazardous travel conditions.
The main concern with the advisory is the hazardous travel conditions. Temperatures will allow for accumulations on road, bridges, and overpasses.
The National Weather Service is discouraging travel.
“If you have to venture out today, follow these driving safety tips,” stated the National Weather Service. “Reduce speed and allow plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you. Avoid making sharp turns or braking suddenly, both of which can cause you to lose control of your vehicle. If your vehicle begins to skid, gently steer in the direction of the skid. Resist the urge to jerk the steering wheel in the opposite direction.”
