FORNEY, Texas — Forney High School graduate Kiana Hawn captured two Big 12 Championships at the 2017 Big 12 Indoor Championships last week in Ames, Iowa, to help the Baylor Women’s Track and Field Team capture their first team title in Baylor University history.

“The Bears used five individual event champions, four runner-up event finishes and 19 athletes, who recorded 28 All-Big 12 performances over two days of action to secure the trophy,” stated Baylor Athletics.

Hawn set a new personal record of 1:20.33 to qualify in the 600-yard run before breaking her personal record again to win the championship with a time of 1:19.22. Hawn turned in the third-fastest time in school history in the 600-yard run and only the third win ever for Baylor in the event.

Hawn was also part of the 4x400-meter relay team which captured Baylor’s fifth title and second-straight win in the event. The team, including Taylor Bennett, Leticia De Souza, and Kiana Horton, recorded the second-fastest time in school history en route to their championship with 3:32.12.

“Bennett kept the Bears on Oklahoma's heels on the first leg, before Hawn took BU to the front and Horton and De Souza built on that lead for a 1.46 second victory,” according to Baylor Athletics.

The woman’s program recorded their most points ever of 129.5 and their most event championships ever of five leading to their first ever indoor title.
