FORNEY, Texas (Special contributions from Ken and Michael Morrill in partnership with The Forney Messenger) — Forney High School and North Forney High School won their season openers on Friday night against Richardson Berkner and Mount Pleasant, respectively.
North Forney’s nearly two-hour trek to Mount Pleasant paid off with a 68-20 victory for their season opener.
“Tenacious running attack and tough defense won this game for the Falcons,” stated Ken Morrill. “They scored 10 of their first 11 possessions to seal this victory.”
In the first half alone, Calvin Ribera rushed for 306 yards and four touchdowns with quarterback Colby Suits passing for 126 yards and one touchdown and rushing for another touchdown.
The Forney Jackrabbits upset Class 6A opponent Richardson Berkner with a final score of 17-13.
Forney’s Zayvion Waters returned the season-opener kickoff for a 97-yard touchdown. The Jackrabbits would go on to score 17 before the half and held off a late-game attempt by Berkner to seal the win.
