Forney softball prepares for state championship tournament as baseball heads to regional finals

FORNEY, Texas — The Forney High School softball team is preparing for their fourth ever trip to the state championship tournament as the baseball teams heads to the regional finals later this week.

FORNEY, Texas — The Forney High School softball team is preparing for their fourth ever trip to the state championship tournament as the baseball teams heads to the regional finals later this week.

The Forney High School softball team defeated Hallsville in two of three games in the regional finals, 4-1 and 4-3, to advance to the state championship tournament.

The trip to Austin will be the fourth in the softball team's history with their last trip recorded in 2012.

Forney softball will face-off against Mont Belvieu Barbers Hill at noon on Friday, June 1, 2018, at the University of Texas' McCombs Field in Austin, Texas. The winner will advance to the state championship game against the winner of the game between Fort Worth Arlington Heights and Richmond Foster.

If they advance, the state championship game is scheduled for Saturday, June 2, 2018, at 3 p.m. It will also be played at McCombs Field.

The Forney High School baseball team defeated Joshua in their best-of-three game series to advance to the regional finals.

In three games, Forney shut-out Joshua 5-0 in Game 1, dropped Game 2 with a score of 5-3, and clinched Game 3 with another shut-out, 7-0.

Forney is set to play Prosper in a best-of-three game series in the regional finals. Prosper is coming off a three-game series win over No. 1 ranker Cleburne.

Game 1 is set for 7:30 p.m. at Dallas Baptist University on Thursday, Game 2 is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the same location, and Game 3, if needed, will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the same location.
