Lady Jackrabbits defeat Texas High in four sets to capture Bi-District Championship title, advance to Area-Round

FORNEY, Texas — On Tuesday, October 31, the Forney Lady Rabbit volleyball team captured the Bi-District Playoff Title with a four-set victory over Texarkana Texas High by a count of 25-9, 20-25, 25-16, and 25-14.

FORNEY, Texas — On Tuesday, October 31, the Forney Lady Rabbit volleyball team captured the Bi-District Playoff Title with a four-set victory over Texarkana Texas High by a count of 25-9, 20-25, 25-16, and 25-14.

This is the 4th straight season in which the Forney Lady Rabbit volleyball team has won a playoff match.

With the victory, Forney, the 3rd place team from District 15-5A, improves to 31-9 overall on the season. Texarkana Texas High, the 2nd seed from District 16-5A, sees its season end at 26-11. Now, Forney will advance to play state-ranked and District 13-5A Champion Frisco Reedy in the Area-Round on Novmber 3, 2017, at Rockwall High SChool at 6:30 p.m. Reedy will come into the match with a 26-11 overall record.

In the first set, Forney dominated behind the strong play of Desiree Johnson, Lexie Welton, Allie Hamsher and Emily Chaney. Forney raced out to a 15-7 lead thanks to some powerful kills from Ms. Johnson and Ms. Welton as well as some excellent setting assists from Ms. Hamsher and a long serving run by Ms. Chaney. From there, Ms. Hamsher guided the Lady Rabbits home with a super serving run of her own. For the record, Forney took the 1st set by a count of 25-9.

However, in the 2nd set, the Lady Tigers built an early 10-5 lead due to some strong kills from Treyaunna Rush and Kaitlyn Cross. But Forney, behind a strong serving display from Ashley Curry, responded with a 14-7 run to grab the advantage at 19-17. In the end, though, Texas High went on an 8-1 closing spurt to win the 2nd set by a count of 25-20. This closing spurt for the Lady Tigers was sparked by a key serving run by Cross.

In the 3rd set, Forney regrouped when it mattered most. First, the Lady Rabbits built a 13-3 advantage behind several big kills from Ms. Johnson and a nice serving run by Ms. Curry. But, Texas High fought back with a 13-3 run of their own to tie the score at 16-all. But, then Allie Hamsher stepped to the serving line for Forney and she personally helped the Rabbits win the 3rd set due to her awesome serving under pressure. For the record, Forney won the 3rd set by a count of 25-16. Forney finished off the 3rd set with a 9-0 scoring run.

In the 4th set, Allie Hamsher kept setting up Desiree Johnson and time after time, Ms. Johnson pounded down the kill to the everlasting joy of her team. With Desiree leading the way, Forney went on to win the 4th set and the match by a count of 25-14.
