North Forney baseball clinches first-ever playoff berth as North Forney, Forney softball advance to area-round

FORNEY, Texas — Last week, the North Forney High School baseball team clinched their first-ever playoff berth in school history as the North Forney High School and Forney High School softball teams advanced through bi-district playoffs and into area-round.

FORNEY, Texas — Last week, the North Forney High School baseball team clinched their first-ever playoff berth in school history as the North Forney High School and Forney High School softball teams advanced through bi-district playoffs and into area-round.

North Forney’s first playoff berth was storied having beaten top-state-ranked, cross-town rivals, and District Champions Forney High School to force a three-way tie for third place in District 15-5A with Wylie East and Lovejoy. The Falcons sealed the berth with wins over Wylie East and Lovejoy in a play-in tournament over the weekend.

“Our backs were against the wall, and these guys found a way to get it done,” Head Coach Zach Gear stated on Twitter following the play-in tournament win and clinched playoff berth. “Never been more proud of a group of players and coaches.”

North Forney baseball now prepares for their first-ever bi-district matchup against Sulphur Springs with a best-of-three series beginning with Game 1 on Friday at 7 p.m. at North Forney High School, Game 2 on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Sulphur Springs High School, and, if needed, Game 3 will be played 30 minutes following the conclusion of Game 2.

Continuing with baseball, District 15-5A Champions Forney High School will face Texas High in bi-district in a best-of-three series with Game 1 on Friday at 4 p.m. at Texarkana High School and Game 2 to follow 30 minutes after Game 1. If needed, Game 3 will be played on Saturday at noon at a location to be determined following Friday’s games at either Texarkana or Tyler.

Forney baseball has great playoff potential behind the arms of junior pitchers Mason Englert and Johnathan Childress who lead the Dallas-area in strikeouts with 88 and 87, respectively, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The North Forney High School softball team prepares for area-round against Prosper after a 2-1 best-of-three series against Texas High. North Forney softball dropped the first game of the series, 1-0, on Thursday night but went on to overcome a 2-0 deficit in Game 2 to capture a win and force Game 3 on Saturday which they won, 4-1.

“Despite the anticipated weather and the possible distraction of prom, the Lady Falcons showed up ready to fight,” Head Coach Scott Delozier stated on the district’s website. “Amanda Jones showed up in a big way at the plate, lining one out over left field to give the Lady Falcons a 2-0 lead. Andrea Decareau threw one of her best games of the season, allowing only one hit and hitting one out of the park, to help her cause.”

The Falcons softball will play Game 1 against Propser on Friday at 7 p.m. at McKinney High School, Game 2 on Saturday at noon at McKinney High School, and Game 3, if needed, 30 minutes following Game 2, also at McKinney High School.

The Forney High School softball team, ranked No.1 in Texas by the Texas Girls Coaches Association and under the direction of former Hallsville Head Coach Pat Eitel, defeated Hallsville in a single game, winner-take-all, bi-district matchup, 6-2.

Forney softball will next play Little Elm in area-round with Game 1 on Friday at 7 p.m. at Garland High School, Game 2 on Saturday at noon at Garland High School, and, if needed, Game 3 30 minutes following Game 2, also at McKinney High School.

Wins for Forney and North Forney softball in the area-round of the playoffs will force a cross-town rivalry matchup in the regional quarter-finals of the playoffs.
