Terrell's Jaquavious Morris in the running for USA Today's ALL-USA Midseason Defensive Player of the Year

TERRELL, Texas — Terrell High School's Jaquavious Morris is in the running for USA Today's ALL-USA Midseason Defensive Player of the Year.

TERRELL, Texas — Terrell High School's Jaquavious Morris is in the running for USA Today's ALL-USA Midseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Morris, according to USA Today, is the nation's second-leading tackler through the first six games of the season — amassing 125 stops, 10 of which were for a loss. Morris is also accredited with a sack and a forced fumble.

In addition to his defensive stats, Morris has played the other side of the ball — rushing for 233 yards and a reception for 21 yards, according to stats compiled by the Dallas Morning News.

The USA Today's national Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards will be presented in December.

USA Today is also conducting a reader poll (HERE) for the Southwest Region candidates which includes Jaylon Jones from Cibolo, Texas, McKinnley Jackson from Lucedale, Mississippi, Emmanuel Forbes from Grenada, Mississippi, and Jaquelin Roy from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Morris, at the time of press, was ranked second in the reader poll which, according to USA Today, will not be used in the selection of player of the year.

Morris, at 5'10" and 190 pounds, is a senior at Terrell High School.
