KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The state’s attorney general’s office has requested that nearly 600 absentee ballots returned in Kaufman county be seized prior to Tuesday’s republican run off election and not be opened until they can be inspected by investigators. 86th District Judge Casey Blair signed the order Monday morning.
The attorney general’s office officials and the Texas Rangers are expected to arrive and begin their investigation on Wednesday according to county officials. The investigation will postpone any official election results for all of the republican races.
The request comes as part of investigations into allegations of election fraud and voter harvesting in the March 6 primary and May 7 Terrell ISD school board election according to court documents. There have also been allegations of election code violations by members of the republican party ballot board and county republican party chair during the primary.
The order will not affect Tuesday’s polling locations or voting times. The polls will be open for both Republican and Democrat party run off elections from 7 AM to 7 PM. Kaufman county voters can vote at any polling location with a valid form of identification.
inForney.com will deliver unofficial election results on Tuesday night.
This is a developing story.
