TERRELL, Texas — Yesterday, a Terrell Police Department K9 sniffed out narcotics in a locked box during a traffic stop in Terrell — which led to additional charges for vehicle's two occupants.

TERRELL, Texas — Yesterday, a Terrell Police Department K9 sniffed out narcotics in a locked box during a traffic stop in Terrell — which led to additional charges for vehicle's two occupants.

On Thursday, January 31, 2019, Terrell police initiated a traffic stop on a 2018 Chevy Impala on Eastbound Interstate 20 near exit 499B. Upon contact, Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom says the officers indicated a strong odor of marijuana was emitting from the vehicle — prompting a search which revealed narcotics on both of the vehicle's occupants.

"Secondary to the lawful search, Terrell Police cross-trained K9 Bolt gave a clear alert on a specific box in the vehicle," stated Sansom. "Consent to search this container was refused and the owner would not provide the access code."

Based on probable cause, Sansom says a narcotics search warrant was obtained, the box was opened, and police discovered just over an ounce of powder cocaine, 2.5 ounces of marijuana, and a Taurus semi-automatic handgun.

Additionally, $700, believed to be the proceeds of illegal narcotics sales, was seized.

20-year-old Jamarcus D. Gray of Cedar Hill, Texas, was arrested and charged by the Terrell Police Department with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 greater than or equal to four grams and less than 200 grams, unlawful carrying of a weapon, and possession of marijuana greater than or equal to four ounces and less than two ounces. Jamarcus was additionally held on other agency charges for violating a promise to appear, no driver's license, and expired vehicle registration.

22-year-old Donya Gray of Desoto, Texas, was arrested and charged by the Terrell Police Department with possession of marijuana less than two ounces and additionally held on other agency charges for failure to maintain financial responsibility and no drivers license.
