KAUFMAN, Texas — A previously convicted child sex offender is behind bars at the Kaufman county jail on new charges of sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child including sexual contact.
John Wayne Hargrove, 42, of Elmo was originally charged and arrested on one count of sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child including sexual contact on October 3. Two days later, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) charged him with an additional count of indecency with a child including sexual contact.
According to arrest warrant affidavits obtained by inForney.com, the female victim came forward and reported repeated abuse by Hargrove to a school administrator. The victim says the abuse started when she was 12-years-old. After an investigation by KCSO, Hargrove was charged and arrested.
Hargrove was magistrate by Kaufman County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Mary Bardin, who set a $75,000 bond on each charge. He remains in jail with a total of $225,000 in bonds.
Hargrove had previously been convicted in 2005 of the same charges in Ellis county. He was found guilty of charges of sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child including sexual contact with a 14-year-old female in 1998. Hargrove was sentenced to seven years with the Texas Department of Corrections and must register as a sex offender for life in that case.
According to the Department of Public Safety Sex offender registry, Hargrove’s last registration with the KCSO was in January 2018. Hargrove listed an address in Elmo, along with another registered sex offender who is also a family member.
This is a developing story.
