CRANDALL, Texas — A Crandall man is facing multiple counts of sexual assault of a child after investigators say he had a relationship with a teenage girl who was a student of a Christian school where he served as an assistant youth pastor.
33-year-old Steven Aaron Winn of Crandall, Texas, now faces six counts of sexual assault of a child in Kaufman and Dallas Counties.
The Mesquite Police Department first learned of the relationship on Feb. 18, 2018, after receiving a report of a possible sexual assault — later learning Winn allegedly had an ongoing relationship with a teenage girl over the course of the last 14 months while she was 15 and 16 years old.
The teenager is a student at the Open Door Baptist Church's Christian School in Mesquite, Texas, where Winn served as an assistant youth pastor.
On Feb. 22, Winn was arrested and charged with three counts of sexual assault of a child in Dallas County with bonds of $25,000 each. On Feb. 26, Winn was additionally charged with three counts of sexual assault of a child in Kaufman County with $1,000 bonds on each count.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
Just prior to his arrest, Winn was terminated from the City of Mesquite on Feb. 20, 2018, after working as a construction inspector in the Public Works Department for approximately 14 years.
