In a tragic incident on Tuesday evening, Dallas police officer Gabriel Bixby, 29, was killed in a motorcycle accident in Hunt County. Officer Bixby, who had served with the Dallas Police Department since 2018 and was assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division, was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle on State Highway 276 when the crash occurred around 5:20 p.m.

According to preliminary reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety, an 85-year-old man driving a Honda Accord was stopped on SH 276, facing east and waiting to turn left into a private drive. Bixby was traveling west when the Accord failed to yield the right of way and turned directly in front of him.

Emergency responders, including units from Hunt County EMS, the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office, Union Valley Fire, and Royse City Rescue, arrived at the scene shortly after the accident. They found Bixby with severe injuries, and despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene by a justice of the peace. The driver of the Accord was transported to Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville, but details of his condition and injuries have not been released.

Interim police chief Michael T. Igo expressed his condolences, stating, "Anytime we lose an officer it's heartbreaking. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Officer Bixby, along with the Northeast Patrol Division. Thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time."

The investigation into the accident is ongoing as authorities work to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the crash.
