FORNEY, Texas — Five suspects wanted in connection with an armed robbery and carjacking in Dallas led police on a highs-peed chase on Monday.
The suspects struck several vehicles during the pursuit, wrecked out on U.S. Highway 80, and were ultimately apprehended.
Following the armed robbery and carjacking in Dallas, Kaufman County Precinct 2 Constable Jason Johnson says the suspects fled to Forney where one of the suspects allegedly has ties.
A Precinct 2 deputy spotted the vehicle in Windmill Farms without a rear license plate and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled and led police westbound on U.S. Highway 80.
Johnson says the fleeing vehicle struck several other motorist in an attempt to evade officers.
The vehicle wrecked on westbound U.S. Highway 80 just east of Lawson Road where all five occupants bailed and fled on foot.
Three of those occupants were apprehended within 100 feet of the wrecked vehicle, according to Johnson.
With assistance from area law enforcement agencies, including a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter, one suspect was apprehended north of U.S. Highway 80 and another south of U.S. Highway 80.
Johnson says at least one of the suspects is an adult and the others, who police are working to positively identify, are possibly juveniles.
The Dallas Police Department's robbery unit is en route to assist in the investigation. A K-9 has also been called out to search for a possible handgun which was used in the previous offense.
The suspects face a list of charges including aggravated robbery, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, evading arrest or detention in a motor vehicle, evading arrest, and engaging in organized criminal activity.
This is a developing story.
