KAUFMAN, Texas — A Kaufman County grand jury indicted a woman on one count of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle in connection with a September 2018 head-on crash that claimed the life of a Kaufman man.
KAUFMAN, Texas — A Kaufman County grand jury indicted a woman on one count of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle in connection with a September 2018 head-on crash that claimed the life of a Kaufman man.
The grand jury handed down the indictment last week for 42-year-old Mandy Tennille Griffin on one count of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle.
At approximately 4:50 a.m., on September 20, 2018, emergency personnel were dispatched to State Highway 34, approximately two miles south of Terrell, where two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.
Griffin was allegedly driving northbound in a Hyundai Sante Fe when she drove on the wrong side of the road, in a no passing zone, and struck a Dodge Caravan head on.
The driver and sole occupant of the Caravan, identified as 66-year-old Juan Esquivel Ramirez of Kaufman, Texas, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Griffin, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety crash report obtained by inForney.com, was flown to Dallas Methodist Medical Center with serious injuries.
"After further investigation of this crash, it was determined that the operator of Unit 1 [Griffin] was intoxicated by introduction of alcohol into her system while operating Unit 1," states the report.
Griffin was also charged with driving while intoxicated, 3rd or more, and was subsequently indicted on that charge in February 2019. She remains held in the Kaufman County Jail on bonds totaling $350,000.
