HEARTLAND, Texas — A Heartland man was arrested last week in connection with an ongoing multi-state ATV theft ring.
Last Wednesday, special rangers with the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, the Precinct 2 Constable’s Office, and investigators with the Sulphur Springs Police Department arrested 34-year-old Harvey Lee Moss Jr. in the 4000 block of Ridgetop Drive in Heartland on a warrant for engaging in organized criminal activity.
The arrest warrant for Moss was one of two served last week in connection with a multi-state ATV theft ring, Sulphur Springs Police Department Detective Sergeant Bo Fox told The Sulphur Springs News-Telegram. The other warrant was served on Dustin Garcia of Mesquite and Scurry, Texas, who is currently in the Hopkins County Jail on other charges related to the ATV theft ring.
Moss was arraigned by a Kaufman County judge and immediately transferred to the Parker County Jail where he posted a $25,000 surety bond the same day and was released.
The investigation into the theft ring has resulted in numerous other Kaufman County residents’ arrests earlier this year.
In January, seven people were arrested in connection with the theft ring, five of which were Kaufman County residents — 35-year-old Joshua Christopher Terry, 30-year-old Laronda Kay Reed, 38-year-old James Lindy Minter all of Kemp, Texas, 35-year-old Ricardo Saldivar of Combine, Texas, and 35-year-old David Paul Rockwell of Terrell, Texas.
In February, two more arrests were made at a Seagoville motel — brothers 32-year-old Christopher Brandon Garcia of Balch Springs, Texas, and 33-year-old Dustin Kyle Garcia of Mesquite and Scurry, Texas.
In April, police in Hopkins County arrested 29-year-old Christopher Lee Chambers of Mabank, Texas, in connection with the ATV theft ring as well as separate charges in a multi-state grocery store burglary ring.
Earlier this year, authorities said they had recovered 14 stolen ATVs in Kemp, Seagoville, Terrell, Scurry, Dallas, Balch Springs, River Oaks, Sulphur Springs, and Deville, Louisiana.
Police say the case remains active and open and additional arrests may be forthcoming.
