SCURRY, Texas — Investigators with the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at a suspected chop shop last month, the department announced today.
The department initially received an environmental complaint about the property in the 9500 block of Diamond Avenue, in an unincorporated area of Kaufman County near Scurry, Texas. Upon further investigation, investigators observed several environmental violations including an excessive amount of tires and oil storage.
A check of a vehicle observed by investigators came back as stolen, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
Investigators obtained a search warrant and, with assistance from special agents with the Texas Department of Public Safety, raided the property on April 23, 2019. There, investigators recovered stolen property estimated at $330,000 including five engines, one passenger car, one travel trailer, four chassis, and one truck with an altered vehicle identification number (VIN).
Kaufman County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jolie Stewart says none of the recovered property was stolen out of Kaufman County.
"The investigation remains on-going, no arrests have been made," she said.
