KAUFMAN, Texas — A Kaufman man has been sentenced to life in prison for repeatedly raping several young family members, prosecutors announced earlier today.
The sentence comes after several days of trial in Kaufman County's 86th District Court before Judge Casey Blair earlier this week. The jury found 35-year-old Pastor Medina-Landaverde guilty on two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, both first-degree felonies.
Kaufman County District Attorney Erliegh Wiley says Landaverde was charged with repeatedly raping a six-year-old female family member.
"The Kaufman Police Department investigated the victim's report of sexual abuse and discovered that there were three additional children in the family who had also been sexually abused by the defendant," she said.
The jury heard emotional testimony from all four victims in the case before sentencing Landaverde to life in prison.
Landaverde remains jailed at the Kaufman County Jail while he awaits his eventual transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He is also being held on an immigration detainer.
Assistant District Attorneys Robyn Beckham and Shelton Gibbs prosecuted the case for the state, with assistance from Investigator Daniel Hargrove.
