KEMP, Texas — A Kemp man was arrested after an alleged intoxicated incident at the Walmart in Gun Barrel City on Sunday, October 28, 2018.

Now, the Gun Barrel City Police Department is asking anyone from the public who may have witnessed or captured the encounter on video to contact the department. The incident is under Internal Affairs investigation and was referred for review by the Texas Rangers.

At approximately 8:36 a.m., the Gun Barrel City Police Department was dispatched to the area of 1200 West Main Street after receiving several 911 calls of a suspicious person. There, a Walmart representative directed police to the person near the Murphy's Gas Station at the east side of the property.

Police say the person, identified as 25-year-old Taylor Duckworth of Kemp, Texas, was displaying signs of intoxication. When an officer attempted to place Duckworth into custody, police say he immediately resisted arrested and fled on foot from the officer.

During the short foot pursuit, an officer deployed a taser and struck Duckworth with no effect, according to a statement from the police department earlier today. Duckworth removed the taser probes and continued to flee.

According to the department, Duckworth also ran into the side of a pickup truck, ran backwards away from police, and collided with the front of another pickup truck.

Two police officers and the civilian drivers of both pickup trucks struggled to place Duckworth into custody, read the statement.

"Multiple attempts to place Duckworth into a patrol vehicle resulted in him fighting and biting officers, hampering any efforts to provide medical attention," stated the department.

"After several minutes, EMS arrived on scene and attempted to sedate Duckworth," stated the department. "The initial dose of sedation was ineffective, and another dose was required."

Duckworth was transported to UT Health East Texas Main Emergency Center. After several hours there, he was released and transported to the Henderson County Jail and booked on charges for assault of a peace officer, resisting arrest, and evading arrest. He is being held on bonds totaling $14,000, according to jail records.

"The criminal investigation regarding the arrest of Duckworth is currently under investigation,' stated the department. "Gun Barrel City Police Department is conducting an internal investigation of the incident, and the case has been referred to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Ranger Division, for review."

On Wednesday, the department asked anyone from the public who may have witnessed or captured the incident on video to contact the department.
