Man allegedly shoots and kills wife in Abner, held on $5 million bond

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — UPDATE [Feb.13] — 63-year-old Ronald May, who stands charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of his wife earlier this week, is being held on a $5 million bond.

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — UPDATE [Feb.13] — 63-year-old Ronald May, who stands charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of his wife earlier this week, is being held on a $5 million bond.

Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Mary Bardin set May's bond at $5 million on his murder charge. Earlier in the day yesterday, County Court at Law Judge Tracy Gray held his bond insufficient on a previous charge for deadly conduct, setting bond in that case to $500,000.

ORIGINAL [Feb. 12] — The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office is investigating an overnight murder in the Abner area of eastern Kaufman County.

At approximately 1:22 a.m., police were called to a home in the 7100 block of Farm-to-Market (FM) 2727 in regard to a shooting.

There, a female was discovered deceased of apparent gunshot wound(s).

The woman's husband, identified by police as 63-year-old Ronald May, was taken into custody without incident and will face a charge for murder, according to Kaufman County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jolie Stewart.

The victim was identified by police as 65-year-old Rita Hargrove May.

Ronald May was charged with deadly conduct in August 2018. That case remains pending in the Kaufman County Court at Law and was scheduled for an announcement hearing tomorrow, February 13, 2019.
