KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A man arrested during an undercover police "buy-back," in connection with the burglary of a Kemp business, is suspected of several other burglaries in Seagoville, according to police.

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A man arrested during an undercover police "buy-back," in connection with the burglary of a Kemp business, is suspected of several other burglaries in Seagoville, according to police.

25-year-old Jose Luis Trujillo-Mendez is now being held at the Kaufman County Jail on an Immigration and Naturalization Service detainer and a Kaufman County Sheriff's Office charge for burglary of a building on a $30,000 bond.

On August 20, 2018, Trujillo-Mendez is suspected of stealing a welder and plasma cutter from a Kemp-area business.

"The following day, the business owner was alerted by his daughter that equipment matching his had been posted for sale online," stated Kaufman County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jolie Stewart.

Investigators with the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office and the Seagoville Police Department then made arrangements to meet with the online seller at a Seagoville business and, after confirming the welder was stolen during the Kemp burglary, arrested Trujillo-Mendez.

"According to Investigators with Seagoville PD, Trujillo-Mendez’s arrest has cleared several burglaries in Seagoville," stated Stewart.

The welder was returned to the business owner and the plasma cutter, which had already been sold, was also later returned.

"This was investigation is a great example of citizens and law enforcement working together," stated Stewart. "We always appreciate any information that the public can provide."
