FORNEY, Texas — A Kaufman man has been arrested in connection with a 2017 Kroger parking-lot drug deal turned robbery and shooting that left one man injured.
On September 19, 2017, the Forney Police Department responded to Kroger for a reported shooting in the parking lot between two vehicles.
According to a Forney Police Department incident report, THC wax, valued at approximately $1,000, and a firearm were stolen during the robbery.
One of the vehicles involved in the shooting was located at the Baylor, Scott & White emergency room in Forney where one of the involved individuals sought treatment for a gunshot wound to the leg. That person, a then-20-year-old Forney man, was airlifted to a Dallas-area hospital for further treatment and later released.
Police initially identified one of the suspects as Nigel Perez of Forney, took him into custody, and charged him with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony. Perez, who was 22 years old at the time of the robbery, was indicted by a Kaufman County grand jury in December 2017 and is awaiting trial.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, 34-year-old Domonic DeWayne Holiness was identified as a possible second suspect in the case and later positively identified in a six-person lineup.
Holiness was arrested by the Kaufman Police Department on a Forney Police Department warrant for aggravated robbery. He was booked into the Kaufman County Jail on February 26, 2019, and is currently being held, at the time of press, on a $130,000 bond. Holiness has previously been convicted in Kaufman County of aggravated assault causes serious bodily injury and two counts of assault causes bodily injury. He is also awaiting trial for a charge of interfering with public duties, a class B misdemeanor.
The latest setting in Perez's case was on February 28, 2019, for a plea hearing, according to Kaufman County records. An announcement is scheduled for April 18, 2019.
