Man being held on $200,000 bond for allegedly stabbing his mother during dispute with 12-year-old brother

CRANDALL, Texas โ€”ย The man who was arrested and charged yesterday in connection with stabbing his mother after she intervened in an argument with his 12-year-old brother has been identified as 20-year-old Edwin Murguia-Castruita.

Murguia-Castruita is being held on a $200,000 bond on a charge for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, family violence.

Kaufman County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jolie Stewart says, as of mid-day Wednesday, the injured 12-year-old brother has been released from Children's Medical Center. An update on the mother's condition was not immediately available at the time of this update.

ORIGINAL โ€” A 19-year-old man is behind bars Tuesday night after police say he allegedly stabbed his mother when she intervened in a dispute between him and his 12-year-old brother in the Talty area.

Kaufman County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the 9200 block of Jesse Way in regard to a domestic disturbance on Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies reported an assault between the brothers, ages 19 and 12, according to Kaufman County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jolie Stewart.

Police say when the mother attempted to intervene she was stabbed multiple times with an unknown type weapon, allegedly by the 19-year-old son.

The mother was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, where her condition is reported as serious but stable.

The 12-year-old was transported to Children's Medical Center in Dallas in unknown condition.

The 19-year-old, who has not been identified pending arraignment and booking, was transported to the Kaufman County Jail where he faces charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, family violence.
