KAUFMAN, Texas — A man remains in jail today after showing up to the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office late yesterday afternoon and then fleeing on foot, causing deputies to chase him and a short manhunt ensued before he was eventually detained.
Mathew Ryan Livergood showed up at the sheriff’s office Thursday afternoon just before 5 PM to retrieve a vehicle that had been impounded. When deputies ran his driver license they learned that he had an outstanding warrant from Canton for burglary of a coin operated machine.
Livergood tried to flee the lobby of the department on foot to keep from being arrested. A deputy tried to initially chase the suspect, but subsequently fell according to witnesses. The deputy was not injured according to KCSO Public Information Officer Jolie Stewart.
Livergood was found a short time later on the opposite side of Hwy 175 behind a business office and was arrested by authorities and booked into jail late last night.
“The Kaufman Police Department and investigators from the District Attorney’s office aided us in the apprehension of the suspect,” Stewart tells inForney.com.
Livergood was additionally charged with evading arrest and a charge of resisting arrest, search or transport. He is being held at the Kaufman County detention center on $10,000 bond for the original charge. Bonds for the subsequent charges are not yet available.
