TERRELL, Texas — Terrell Police Department K9 Bolt sniffed out suspected methamphetamine and heroin during a traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon.
On Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at approximately 4:55 p.m., a Terrell Police Department officer was on patrol in the 600 block of Morris Street when he conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle.
The officer observed indicators of possible narcotics and, upon denial of such and refusal to consent to search, deployed K9 Bolt for an open-air sniff of the perimeter of the vehicle, according to Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom.
The K9 alerted to possible narcotics which gave the officer probable cause to search the vehicle. During the search, police officers discovered a shard like substance, believed to be methamphetamine, and a brown sticky substance, believed to be heroin. A field test of the narcotics gave a presumptive positive.
The methamphetamine weighed 2.6 grams and the heroin weighed .7 grams.
The driver, 63-year-old James Chandler Groessel, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 greater than or equal to one gram but less than four grams and is being held on a $250,000 bond, possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 less than one gram with a $50,000 bond, and tamper of fabricate with physical evidence with intent to impair with a $250,000 bond.
