TERRELL, Texas — Two individuals suspected of theft at the Walmart in Terrell fled from police with an infant in tow, according to police.
Now, police say, the two will face charges for theft, evading arrest, and endangering a child.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., on July 4, 2018, the Terrell Police Department responded to the Walmart located at 1900 West Moore Avenue in reference to shoplifting.
Upon arrival, police say 40-year-old Antonio Pena and 30-year-old Nita Vasquez, both of Dallas, Texas, fled in a vehicle westbound on U.S. Highway 80.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and DPS helicopter, and the Kaufman County Precinct 2 Constables Office joined in the pursuit as it entered Forney. The pursuit continued into Mesquite and into the Pleasant Grove area where the suspect vehicle stopped due to mechanical failure.
"The suspects were arrested and were found to have their 6-month-old infant with them in the vehicle," stated Terrell Police Department Corporal Zachary Boyd.
"No parties involved were injured during this incident and the child was ultimately released to family shortly afterwards," stated Boyd. "Texas Department of Family and Protective Services was contacted due to the involvement of the child in the incident."
Pena was charged with evading arrest with a vehicle, abandon or endanger a child, and theft less than $2,500 with two or more previous convictions. Vasquez was charged with abandon or endanger a child and theft less than $2,500 with two or more previous convictions.
