MESQUITE, Texas — The Mesquite Police Department is seeking the public's assistance locating a white, late-model Jeep Patriot believed to be involved in a suspected drug robbery turned double homicide.
The department on Wednesday released surveillance video of the Jeep Patriot.
Around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, police say 19-year-old Jacob Bradley Hollett of Mesquite, Texas, and 18-year-old Dalton James Prater of Fate, Texas, met with two people in the area of Gus Thomasson Road and Whitson Way to sell marijuana.
"Investigators believe that the shooting is a result of a drug robbery," stated Mesquite Police Department Lt. Brian Parrish. "The suspects met with the victims under the pretense of buying marijuana from the victims."
According to Parrish, one of the suspects produced a handgun and demanded the drugs. Hollett attempted to drive away in a gray Nissan and was shot multiple times. The gunman then turned to Prater who was sitting nearby in a red Dodge pickup truck, striking him several times.
"Suspect #1 then entered the suspect vehicle and suspect #2 drove the vehicle away from the scene," stated Parrish.
Hollett was transported to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. Prater was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Polcie described suspect #1 as a black male, early 20’s, 6’1” tall, “box cut” style hair, medium build, medium skin tone. Suspect #2 was described as a black male, dreadlocks, and dark skin tone. The vehicle was described as a white, late-model Jeep Patriot.
