KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A wanted, armed felon was arrested after a high-speed chase through four counties ended in Kaufman County on Monday.

Henderson County Sheriff's Office investigators attempted to stop 30-year-old Daniel Ray Hayden III in the Seven Points area. Hayden, of Athens, Texas, initially heeded the investigators, pulled over, but fled after being asked to step out of his vehicle, according to Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse.

Hillhouse says Hayden fled through four counties before Kaufman County deputies were able to successfully deploy a spike strip across a road, bringing the vehicle to a halt.

Hayden fled on foot and was eventually apprehended without further incident. A search incident arrest yielded a firearm, methamphetamine, and items believed to be stolen.

Hayden was charged with evading arrest in a motor vehicle, evading arrest with previous convictions, possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. He is also being held on a Kaufman County charge for burglary of a building and a Vand Zandt County charge for theft less than $20,000, enhanced.

“Thank you to Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and all other law enforcement agencies that helped out during this pursuit," stated Hillhouse. "This proves when everyone works together we can get things done.”
