FORNEY, Texas (Forney High School Student Council) -- Delegates from Forney High School joined nearly five thousand students and advisors, representing more than 400 student councils from across the state that converged on the Arlington Convention Center April 9-11 for the annual Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) Annual High School Conference.

Cedar Creek High School hosted the conference which is the largest gathering of student council leaders in the United States.

This year’s theme “DARE TO DREAM. DARE TO DO!” urged students to not only dream of doing good and achieving those dreams but also to “do” what it takes to achieve them.

“We learned valuable leadership skills that will not only benefit me, but our Student Council next year”, said Michael Luecke, current Student Council Vice-President and President of the Junior Class.

The conference included presentations by groups such as Dude, Be Nice, and Rachel’s Challenge; breakouts about projects and opportunities presented by other Student Council students, and an evening at Six Flags. Speakers included Bob Upgren, Keith Hawkins, and M3 Rock n’ Talk.

“We appreciate our Principal, Steve Whiffen, allowing us to attend this conference”, said Advisor Phillip Jenkins. “We will use what we learned to better our Student Council and get more students involved in projects.” Said current Student Council Secretary, and next year’s Student Council President Adrianne Laky.

TASC is a non-profit serving high school and middle level student councils in Texas. Sponsored by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, its purposes are to develop leadership abilities in students, promote democracy as a way of life, and uphold high standards for local councils. With over 1200 member schools, it is the largest state student council organization in the US.
