FORNEY, Texas (Forney Independent School District, Larry Coker) – The Forney ISD Board of Trustees recently approved a preemptive rezoning plan during the board’s regular monthly board meeting on Monday, June 6.

The plan involves the rezoning of three neighborhoods and one rezoned neighborhood and only affects new students moving into specific areas in the District. The goal of the District was not to affect any current students attending school in Forney ISD. The new rezoning plan will be implemented at the start of the 2016-2017 school year.

Chestnut Meadow

One of the areas included in the preemptive plan is a new street under construction that is located just south of the Chestnut Meadow neighborhood. It is a single street with new homes currently under construction. At this time, there are no students currently residing in this neighborhood. Based on the District’s current school zones, the new street would be zoned to Johnson Elementary School. The new preemptive rezoning plan would rezone the street to Claybon Elementary School. The rezoning would only affect new elementary students to the District that move into a house located on this new street.

Brooklyn Village

A new subdivision located east of Pinson Avenue and north of Highway 80 is currently under construction and does not currently have any residents. The subdivision is currently zoned for Crosby Elementary School. The new preemptive rezoning plan would rezone the neighborhood to Criswell Elementary School. This will alleviate future overcrowding at Crosby Elementary School. Again, the rezoning would only affect new elementary students to the District that move into the subdivision.

Windmill Farms New Phase

A new phase north of Windmill Farms Blvd and across from Brown Middle School is currently under construction. The phase includes multiple homes and is close to completion. The new phase is currently zoned for Blackburn Elementary School. The new preemptive rezoning plans would rezone the new phase to Smith Elementary School to alleviate potential overcrowding at Blackburn Elementary School. As with all of the other preemptive rezoning plans, only new elementary students to the District that move into the new Windmill Farms phase would be affected.

Devonshire Drive and Northeast Boundaries

The Forney ISD Board of Trustees also approved a rezoning plan that would affect only new students to the District that move into the areas north of Devonshire Drive and east of Ranch Road and extends to the north and east boundaries of the Forney ISD school district zone. The designated area is currently zoned for Crosby Elementary School and is proposed to be rezoned to Smith Elementary School. Current students and siblings would be grandfathered to attend their current campuses. This rezoning will only affect new elementary students to the District that move into this attendance zone. This attendance zone change will help to alleviate future overcrowding at Crosby Elementary School.
