FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Independent School District is seeking a new chief financial officer (CFO) with the news its current CFO, Lucas Janda, will likely be chosen by the fast-growing, central Texas Leander Independent School District as their CFO.

The Forney ISD posted the job earlier today on the district’s website in preparation Janda would be chosen and approved by the Leander ISD Board of Trustees at their next board meeting later this month.

“It was a tough decision and wasn’t something we sought,” Janda said speaking with inForney.com. The move puts his growing family closer to other family in the area. “It’s a good move,” he said.

Janda joined the district in 2011 as a key piece to former Superintendent Michael Holland’s leadership team to tackle the district’s then-disastrous financial situation — over-funding by the Texas Education Agency which resulted in a $13.6 million repayment to the state and a $4 million fund balance deficit.

Today, the district announced a third-straight operating surplus year and an unmodified opinion letter from external audit firm Whitley Penn, the highest level of assurance an audit firm can give a school district. The district’s fund balance now — a $4.5 million surplus.

Janda said he will never forget his time at Forney ISD and all the work accomplished in just three short years. “The district is in a great financial position for the future,” he said.

During the Forney ISD Board of Trustees monthly meeting on Novmeber 3, 2014, Board President Keith Bell stated, “[I] appreciate that all Forney ISD staff never once lost sight of the main thing, our students, while making the necessary changes to improve the District’s financial health.”
