TERRELL, Texas — Terrell ISD officials say that an “electronic error” was responsible for Terrell High School (THS) going on lockdown this afternoon and there was no threat to students or staff.

According to officials the audible notification system instructing students and faculty to follow lockdown procedures went off spontaneously just after 3 PM today at the high school campus. As a precaution, the district waited until the campus had been secured by law enforcement before lifting the lockdown and releasing students.

“As a precaution, law enforcement was on campus to secure all classrooms. Student safety is the district’s top priority,” Olivia Rice, the district’s public information officer tells inForney.com.

The district said on its Facebook page that all students were safe, posting they believed it was a “glitch”, but wanted to inform parents and the community that every classroom was being secured. The lockdown lasted approximately 40 minutes.

A THS employee had to be care flighted from the campus earlier in the day due to a medical emergency. While the district is prohibited from providing any personal information about the incident, the district did say that the employee was reportedly in “stable” condition tonight.

“We will always take the necessary steps to ensure the security of our students and staff members,” Rice said.
