FORNEY, Texas — A North Forney High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) student snagged a certificate to purchase a breeding animal at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo on Sunday.
North Forney High School student Kolby Bruhn, a tear-year member of the North Forney FFA Chapter, competed for a certificate during The Calf Scramble at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo on Feb. 11, 2018.
Bruhn was one of many who caught a calf during the scramble. He plans to use the certificate to purchase a breeding ewe lamb to show at next year's San Antonio Stock Show.
"Bruhn said that his favorite thing about the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is getting to show sheep," read a press release from the show. "Bruhn's future plan is to attend Texas A&M University to become an Agricultural Engineer."
The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo takes place February 8-25, 2018. It has received the PRCA Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year award for 13 consecutive years. Established in 1949, it has grown to be one of the largest and most prestigious single events in the city, with over 2 million visitors entering the grounds in 2017. The success of the organization is attributed to over 6,000 volunteers who give countless hours to the organization. With community, donor and volunteer support, the organization has committed over $186 million to the youth of Texas through scholarships, grants, endowments, auctions, a calf scramble and show premiums.
