KAUFMAN, Texas — HAZMAT crews are en route to an overturned 18-wheeler off U.S. Highway 175 near the western city limits of Kaufman.
The crash was reported at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2017, on westbound U.S. Highway 175 just west of Farm-to-Market (FM) 1390.
The 18-wheeler rock-hauler veered off the highway and overturned onto the north service road— causing the tractor and trailer to separate and significant damage to the tractor’s cab. The driver wasn’t hauling any material at the time of the crash.
HAZMAT crews are en route for cleanup of approximately 25 gallons of hydraulic fluid, several gallons of oil, and approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel which is leaking from the fuel tank, according to Kaufman Fire Department Assistant Chief Ronnie Davis.
Davis says the driver was uninjured despite the damage to the tractor’s cab.
The Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management also responded to the scene due to the hazardous material spill.
The north service road is expected to remain closed west of FM 1390 for several hours as crews work to cleanup the wreck.
The Kaufman Fire Department, Kaufman Police Department, CareFlite, and Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office, among others, responded to the crash.
