AUSTIN, Texas โ€” The 86th Texas legislative session was gaveled into order today at the state capitol and Forney resident Keith Bell was sworn into his new role in the Texas House of Representatives.

Bell was elected State Representative of House District 4 in November which serves Kaufman and Henderson counties.

Surrounded by friends, family and supporters, Bell was sworn into office on the house floor. Bell was previously the president of the Forney ISD school board and is the President and owner of Intex Electrical in Forney.

Skyrocketing property taxes and school funding are just two of the hot button issues the legislature is set to tackle, both issues Bell ran on during his primary campaign and run off.

โ€œI will continue to be a proponent for our kids, as I have been for decades. You canโ€™t have meaningful property tax reform if you donโ€™t fix school finance,โ€ Bell tells inForney.com.

The first vote of the new session was to elect a new speaker of the house, unanimously Dennis Bonnen was chosen by his peers. Bell says he looks forward to working with Speaker Bonnen.

โ€œSpeaker Bonnen has stated school finance reform is his number one priority,โ€ Bell said. โ€œIโ€™m excited and encouraged where the session is going. People expect us to get to work.โ€™

As a freshman representative, Bell will learn of his committee assignments in the coming weeks.
