TALTY, Texas — A tire blowout sparked several grass fires along Interstate 20 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Forney Fire Department responded to westbound Interstate 20, west of Farm-to-Market (FM) 1641, for several grass fires along the highway which prompted the closure of the outside lane.
A tire on an 18-wheeler suffered a blowout just before 3 p.m. which sparked the grass fires on the shoulder of the highway.
The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety also responded to the incident.
The right lane of the highway was temporarily closed while emergency personnel were on scene. It has since been reopened however, the 18-wheeler remains stopped on the shoulder.
