HUNT COUNTY, Texas — The bodies of a father and son were recovered on Lake Tawakoni after being reported missing on Monday.
The father, 25-year-old Corey Saunders, and the son, 5-year-old Nathan Saunders, were out duck hunting on a boat and failed to return home when a family member reported them missing.
The son’s body was recovered from the lake late Monday night after authorities found the family’s dog who also on the boat with the pair. The search for the father continued Tuesday morning when his body was also recovered from the lake.
Texas Game Warden Captain Steve Stapleton says, althought the investigation continues, several factors may have contributed to the accident including inclement weather and lake conditions on Monday morning.
Hunt County Sheriff's Office Sheriff Randy Meeks says neither Nathan or Corey were wearing life jackets when their bodies were recovered.
A GoFundMe fundraising page has been established to assist the family in funeral-related expenses.
Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of two missing persons on Lake Tawakoni. Both of the victims have now been recovered.
