TERRELL, Texas — Terrell native and business leader Rick Carmona will be the next mayor of Terrell.
Filing deadline for candidates to run for Terrell mayor was last Friday, February 15. Carmona was the only candidate who filed for a place on the ballot according to city officials. Current city mayor DJ Ory had previously announced he would not run for reelection.
Carmona is a Terrell High School graduate and has owned and operated his family’s Tex-Mex restaurant, Carmona’s, since 1984. It is now located near Tanger Outlet Mall.
In addition to an accomplished restaurateur, Carmona is a former Terrell City Council Member and currently serves as Chairman of the Terrell Economic Development Board.
In 2017, Carmona was honored with the Terrell Rotary Club’s Community Service Award.
City officials say the council will consider a resolution to cancel city elections since Carmona is unopposed at their March 5 meeting. The election was scheduled for May 4.
