TERRELL, Texas (City of Terrell) — The City of Terrell Fire Department recently sent four firefighters to the National Honor Guard Academy in Rowlett.
The goal of the National Honor Guard is to represent all members of the fire department with the highest degree of professionalism, dedication, loyalty, honor, and dignity possible. Graduates of the academy strive to honor firefighters in life as well as death, and to exhibit the best possible image to communities around the nation.
Honor Guard is a prestigious ceremonial unit made up of highly motivated volunteers. The primary role of Honor Guards is to provide funeral honors for fallen comrades and participate in support of other agencies. They may also serve as the “Guardians of the Colors” by displaying and escorting the national flag on ceremonial occasions and during parades.
The National Honor Guard Academy was founded by fire service honor guard members who saw the need to elevate the professionalism and presentation of Emergency Service Honor Guards. The NHGA provides honor guard training to firefighters, police officers, and EMS personnel. Training focuses on how to care for families of fallen emergency service providers on their greatest day of need.
