COLLEGE MOUND, Texas — A Kaufman County family of four was displaced overnight due to a fire at their Abner Road home late Tuesday.

An “aggressive interior attack” is credited for putting a quick stop to the fire and containing it to a bedroom and bathroom near its point of origin.

At 8:46 p.m., the College Mound Fire Department responded to the residential structure fire in the 6300 block of Abner Road with mutual aid from the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department.

Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy smoke showing from the double-wide mobile home.

“College Mound and Terrell volunteer firefighters mounted an aggressive interior attack,” stated College Mound Fire Department Safety Officer Terry Van Sickle. “Most of the fire was contained to a bedroom and bathroom near the point of origin.”

The family discovered the fire, was able to safely evacuate the home, and call 911, according to Van Sickle.

There were no injuries reported in the fire.

The American Red Cross of Kaufman County responded to assist the family with shelter, food, and clothing.

A College Mound Support Services vehicle also responded for firefighter rehab and a CareFlite ambulance responded for standby in case of injury.

The Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
