CRANDALL, Texas — A Crandall Police Department vehicle was struck early Monday morning while directing traffic off the highway due to a previous crash.

Around 5 a.m., the Crandall Police Department and Crandall Fire Department responded to a crash on the bridge of westbound U.S. Highway 175 and Farm-to-Market (FM) 148.

There, police were forced to shut down the highway and direct traffic onto the service road.

Approximately two miles east of the original crash, a Crandall Police Department officer positioned his vehicle to direct other motorists off of the highway. The officer was out of the vehicle when it was struck in the rear by another vehicle.

The other motorist reported he did not see the Crandall Police Department patrol vehicle prior to the crash.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage as a result of the collision. No major injuries were reported.

"Please take extra precaution while operating your vehicle during inclement weather and avoid being distracted by things that could take your focus off the roadway," stated the Crandall Police Department.
